Data Management Internship

Student position within the Agricultural Catchments Program in Teagasc.

Shared responsibilities of the Data Manager position. My role involved the planning, development and fulfillment of various projects as they arose. These included working with the project leader for a specialized time series database and analysis software, building interim systems and databases for the program, advising about possible improvements that could be made with the current systems and processes, and designing a web based solution for graphing and aggregating weather data.

Involved in the setup and administration of Virtual Servers for various uses and needs. Uses open sourced based technologies such as OpenVZ, VServer, VirtualBox, and Virtual Server. Also involves the maintenance, configuration and security of each of the individual containers as well as host systems.

Involved working in a changing team maintaining and installation of servers and server related technologies such as SQL, Java Servlets, FTP, ssh, DNS, web, proxies, mail, on various platforms such as Linux, BSD and Windows Server. This was to allow the provision of Internet and network based services within a college network with a changing user-base every year.
